FLSA Designation: Exempt
Nature of Duties: Under general supervision, prepares lesson plans for classroom instruction for credited technical/occupational courses; develops program curriculum, syllabi, goals, and objectives; evaluates students’ progress in attaining goals and objectives. Requests and maintains supplies and equipment and prepares budget requests; maintains program certification/accreditation requirements as appropriate. Prepares and maintains all required documentation and administrative reports; attends professional development training, workshops, seminars, and conferences; ensures safety and security requirements are met in the discipline area; meets with students, staff members and other educators to discuss students’ instructional programs and other issues; assists with recruitment, retention, and job placement efforts. Will teach speech and English for certificate, diploma, and degree programs on three campuses while maintaining knowledge of current trends and developments in the field. Speech curriculum includes introductory public speaking, interpersonal communication, argumentation, persuasion, group communication, critical evaluation, and oral interpretation. Position may require committee and project assignments as well as day/evening classes and activities.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in speech, rhetoric, or communication or a master’s degree in a related field with 18 graduate semester hours specified in speech communication.
- Recent teaching experience.
- Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with a diverse student population.
- Strong computer, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Teaching experience at the postsecondary level.
- Appropriate qualifications to teach in a secondary discipline, such as English, theater/drama, humanities, etc.
Salary/Benefits: Salary range is commensurate with previous work experience. Benefits include paid state holidays, vacation, retirement, personal and sick leave, and the State of Georgia Flexible Benefits Program.
