New WCTC Board Leadership Announced
An established leader in Douglas County is joining current Chairman Fred O’Neal of Carrollton to lead the West Central Technical College Board of Directors. Janice Thompson of State Farm Insurance in Douglasville began her one-year term as vice-chair July 1. O’Neal is beginning his second term as chairman.
“We are excited about the great leadership that is onboard for the coming year,” WCTC President Skip Sullivan said. “Great things are happening at West Central, and both Fred and Janice are excited about being an integral and vital part of the initiatives that will be announced this year.”
Thompson has been involved with numerous community groups in Douglas County including the Douglas County Chamber of Commerce, Junior League of Douglas County and the Rotary Club. She has served as county campaign chairperson for both the March of Dimes and the United Way was selected at Douglas County Citizen of the Year in both 1987 and 2000.
“I look forward to serving the college, our community and the students,” Thompson said. “I believe the programs and initiatives of the West Central Technical College have been a major factor in Georgia’s – and especially the west metro Atlanta area’s – economic success.”
“My commitment is to provide the best educational opportunities possible to each student,” Thompson, a founding board member of the Douglas County Regional Youth Center, said.
O’Neal is serving or has served with a vast array of community organizations in Carroll County. He is a past chairman of the Carrollton City Planning and ZoningBoard and the Carroll County Chamber of Commerce, is a past president of the Carrollton Noon Lions Club, a member of the Downtown Carrollton Association, a life member of the NAACP, and serves on the Board of Deacons of the First Baptist Church of Carrollton.
“It is an honor and privilege to serve the college,” O’Neal said. “We look forward to continuing the great tradition of changing lives through the education of young minds.”
O’Neal has been honored by a variety of organizations by being named an Outstanding Young Man of America and named to Who’s Who Among Successful African Americans. He was a Leadership Georgia Participant and also serves as a member of UWG Foundation. O’Neal was a Beta Sigma Gamma initiate for 2005.
“We are looking forward to a great year and appreciate the support we get from the community and staff,” he said.
