Effective Summer 2008 (200901)
Enrollment Processing Changes
These are changes in process and procedures for credit students:
-
Students who have not made payment for all assessed fees are encouraged to sign authorizations allowing these fees to be taken out of state and/or federal student aid or obtain a Third Party agreement (access electronic authorization by logging into Banner Web student account). After all payment options have been exhausted, students with unpaid fees after the payment deadline must be dropped from all class rosters.
-
June 20 at 5:00 p.m. is the payment deadline.
-
July 8-10 a three-day “No Harm No Foul” drop period for all students. Students who withdraw from a course by the end of the third instructional day of the quarter will receive no grade for the course and will receive a 100% refund of applicable tuition and refundable fees.
-
Students who withdraw from a course after the end of the third instructional day of the quarter and before the midpoint shall receive an appropriate W grade and shall receive no refund of tuition and fees.
-
July 8-14 Students will be allowed to add open sections of courses up through and including the first 7 calendar days of the quarter.
-
There are no longer provisions for 75% refunds at the beginning of the term. The refund policy is revised to “Students will receive a 100% refund of applicable tuition and refundable fees for courses dropped by the end of the third instructional day of any quarter.”
Financial Aid Satisfactory Academic Progress
In order to receive financial aid, a student must be enrolled in an eligible program of study that leads to a Certificate, Diploma, or an Associate Degree. In addition, there are three SAP requirements that students need to meet or they may become ineligible to receive financial aid due to unsatisfactory academic progress:
-
Quality—this is monitored by grade point average (GPA). To maintain eligibility for financial aid, students must stay in good academic standing by maintaining a 2.0 cumulative GPA and must have at least a 2.0 grade point average at the end of each quarter on the scheduled credit hours attempted.
-
Quantity—this is monitored by evaluating the percentage of attempted credits in which passing grades are earned. The minimum satisfactory completion rate is 67%. Passing grades for this purpose are letter grades of A, B, C, D, or A*, B*, C*, D*.
-
Maximum Timeframe—the final component requires that students complete their program of study within 150% of the required credits of the program. For example, if you are in a program of study that requires 80 credits to graduate, you may receive funding for the first 120 credits attempted. All repeated units are included as attempted; therefore, each time a course is taken, the number of units will be included in the calculation of the 150% rule and academic progress.
Satisfactory Academic Progress is monitored at the end of each quarter. Students who do not meet these progress requirements will be placed on financial aid probation and may become ineligible for financial aid after one additional quarter.
Academic Advising Sessions for Health Services Students
All newly admitted and re-admitted students seeking admission into a Competitive Health Services Program (Clinical Laboratory Technology, Dental Hygiene, Medical Assisting, Practical Nursing, Radiologic Technology, Registered Nursing, Surgical Technology) are required to attend a mandatory Academic Advising Session before they are allowed to register for classes.
These sessions are optional for current Health Services students wishing to learn how to more effectively manage their program of study. Students may call or email Career Services to register for a session: cfolmar@westcentraltech.edu, 770-824-5243; space is limited-students should register early for the best availability.
Change in Fee Payment Schedule for Malpractice Insurance
Students enrolled in programs requiring contact with human clients or patients must have malpractice insurance coverage. This insurance protects the student from personal financial liability resulting from accusations of malpractice. Most recently, WCTC has collected the premium for malpractice insurance by adding a malpractice fee to certain courses, to collect the fee only once each year ($17 in all areas requiring this insurance, except for Paramedic Technology and EMT Certificates, where it is $71).Effective Summer Quarter 2008 (200901) a new process for charging malpractice insurance will be implemented.
The yearly malpractice premium will be allocated and collected quarterly over the fiscal year. The fee is connected to the program major rather than being associated with certain courses.
-
Clinical Laboratory $4.25 per quarter
-
Cosmetology $4.25 per quarter
-
Dental Assisting $4.25 per quarter
-
Dental Hygiene $4.25 per quarter
