Jordan Truck Sales of Carrollton has donated a refrigerated trailer to West Central Technical College for use in the Commercial Truck Driving Program.
Instructors will use the refrigerated trailer – which truckers sometimes call a ‘reefer’ – to instruct students both in the regular CTD program and the College’s new refresher course for truckers who have been out of the industry for two years or more and want to get back on the road.
Ronnie Jordan delivered the 48-foot trailer to WCTC President Dr. Skip Sullivan August 23 at the College’s Carroll Campus.
“We believe in West Central Technical College and in what Dr. Sullivan is doing here,” Jordan said. “I actually attended the school, and I believe that their program for truck drivers is second-to-none. They are producing a lot of good truck drivers, and that is important to me in my business.”
Sullivan thanked Jordan, praising the cooperation that West Central has with industry.
“Partnerships like this one are what make our College successful,” Sullivan said. “We are grateful for business leaders in our community who recognize the quality of graduates we are producing and the impact they have on the area’s economy on a daily basis.”
Chad Ledbetter, a commercial truck driving instructor, explained that students will now get hands-on experience in the operation of the refrigeration unit on the front of the trailer.
“A lot of our students get jobs with companies who run refrigerated trailers, like Tyson Foods,” Ledbetter said. “We want to make sure they are prepared for these jobs when they leave our program.”
West Central Technical College, with campuses in Carroll, Coweta, Douglas and Haralson counties, offers over 90 associate degree, diploma and technical certificate programs of study. A unit of the Technical College System of Georgia, West Central is the sixth fastest-growing of 33 technical colleges in the state and last year had an unduplicated credit enrollment of 5,059. West Central serves over 10,000 students including credit enrollment, adult education, ESL classes, continuing education and corporate training.
