CEU's and PLU's

Dear Educator:

It has come to our attention that many of our community educators where unaware that the Continuing Education Department at West Central Technical College awarded Continuing Education Units (CEUs). WCTC is authorized by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) to award CEU credit. CEU credit is awarded on a 1:10 ratio, meaning 1 CEU unit = 10 contact hours.

As stated by Professional Standards Rule 505-2-.13, Standard Renewal Requirements gives reference to acceptable resident college, Georgia staff development credit specifically approved for certification renewal in Georgia and Continuing Education Units (CEUs) issued by a provider authorized by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET).

Each CEU can be easily converted into a Professional Learning Unit (PLU) by simply submitting a Prior Approval Form to WCTC. The Continuing Education Department will then define the course objectives and outcomes. The completed form will then need to be submitted to the Board of Education for approval. This process must be requested and approved before teacher participates in the course. The Board of Education will then authorize the conversion of the CEU to a PLU if the course meets the criteria established by the Board of Education policy.
