2009 Submission Guidelines
VOICES is published annually by West
Central Technical College. The magazine seeks to showcase the best examples of
the creativity that is alive and well at WCTC. We solicit submissions during
the summer and fall quarters, compile and edit the magazine during the winter
and spring quarters, and release the magazine at the end of spring quarter each
year. Submissions are welcome from the following:
-
Current students of WCTC
-
Recent graduates of WCTC (class of 2006 to present)
-
Current staff and faculty members of WCTC
-
Retired staff and faculty members of WCTC
-
Members of WCTC's various boards and advisory committees
Submissions must be the creative work solely of
the submitter; we will not accept submissions made on behalf of anyone who does
not fall into one of the aforementioned categories. All works submitted by
current students according to the guidelines outlined here are eligible to
compete for the cash prizes offered for each category of work; only current
students are eligible for the cash prizes.
Submission does not guarantee publication; due
to space limitations we cannot publish every submission. We try to select works
that offer a diverse view of the WCTC community. Acceptance or rejection does
not necessarily reflect the quality of the submission; rather, we accept or
reject work based upon the needs of the magazine and the editorial standards set
for that edition. We hope to constantly improve the quality of the magazine
each year; thus, standards of quality tend to go up each year. Please also keep
in mind that VOICES is a publication of the state government of Georgia
and, as such, must adhere to certain standards of ethics and respect the line
between religion and government.
The deadline for submissions is the last day of
the fall quarter (Thursday, December 11, 2008).
Categories of Work
Prose: Maximum 3 submissions per author,
maximum of 5000 words each. This category includes fiction, short stories,
essays, reports, analytical projects, proposals, and letters.
Poetry: Maximum 5 submissions per author, no
word limit.
Art: Maximum 4 submissions per artist, no
size limits. This category includes photography, digital photography, CAD work,
medical illustrations, sculpture, painting, drawing, and other forms of visual
art. Photographs of original non-photographic works may be submitted for
consideration in lieu of the actual works.
Each individual work must be accompanied by a submission
form. Materials without submission forms will not be accepted for
consideration. Please submit written work as Microsoft Word files on
CD or by email (do not use 3.5 floppy disks). Any other format for written work will not be
accepted for consideration. Each written work must be saved as an individual,
clearly named file on your CD (example: if you are submitting two short
stories, one essay, and three poems, there should be six files on your CD and
six submission forms with the CD). Please submit digital photography on CD. Submit materials to one of the following editors:
