90 PERCENT OF WCTC EMPLOYEES SUPPORT FOUNDATION

West Central Technical College employees have found another way to support the programs of the College – with their wallets.

The West Central Technical College Foundation announced this week 90 percent of College employees, nearly 200 in all, are participating in its annual internal giving campaign, themed the WCTC Derby.

“We could not be more pleased with the commitment of College employees to the Foundation,” Director of Institutional Advancement Dawn Cook said. “They recognize that the Foundation has made a big commitment to the College this year – $200,000 in operational support. I think when people see a group that is not just talking about doing something, but actually taking action, they want to be a part of that.”

Foundation president Ned Fowler announced the $200,000 support at a September 27 staff development meeting, and challenged employees to give something back to the Foundation. “We believe in what this College is doing to change lives and provide opportunity to the residents of West Georgia,” Fowler said, “and we as a Foundation are stepping up. We ask you to do the same.”

Employees have answered the call. Friendly competition in a derby-style horse race between the College’s four full-service campuses spurred them on. The campus with the highest employee participation, the Coweta Campus in Newnan with 100 percent participation, was declared winner of the WCTC Derby.

“I love the way our employees are supporting our Foundation because it says to our community that we are united,” College President Dr. Skip Sullivan said. “It says that everyone in the community ought to get on board in supporting this great institution just like our employees have.”

Employees had a variety of means to give, including payroll deduction, which many employees utilize to give a donation every month directly from their paycheck.

“About 85 percent of participants give to the Foundation every month,” Cook said. “You can’t give a stronger endorsement than that. These employees are giving every month to support the mission of the College. That shows a definite, palpable commitment to the institution that goes beyond verbal consent. They are ‘walking the walk.’”

Cook – who manages day-to-day Foundation operations – said that she continues to work with community organizations, business partners and other foundations to build support for West Central. A board of trustees from WCTC’s four-county service area, currently with 20 members, governs the Foundation, which is recognized as a 501(c)3 non-profit. Additional information is available on the College’s website, www.westcentraltech.edu.

West Central Technical College, with campuses in Carroll, Coweta, Douglas and Haralson counties, offers over 90 associate degree, diploma and technical certificate programs of study.
